Quotable Sunday - First Day of Advent: Hope

Today marks the First day of Advent.  While it's not something that we traditionally did as kids, aside from having one of the fun Advent Calendars to mark down the 24 Days of Christmas and a much more elaborate one of these Swedish Angel Chimes:

My Swedish Great-Grandmother followed a lot of those traditions when we were growing up, so I'd like to keep some of those same (and nice warm fuzzy memory) traditions alive with Princess Nagger.  She gets a kick out of the cute little Swedish Angel chimes we have, and tonight we'll light the first candle.

One of these days I'd love to get one of these:

Though the whole St. Lucia tradition isn't something I remember doing as a kid - sure, the Lucia Day Feast on December 13th, but beyond that we didn't follow a lot of the traditions, rather following the 'Americanized' traditions instead.  It doesn't matter what we do, Princess Nagger loves anything and everything having to do with Christmas - and all the fun it entails. Although I bet she'd get a kick out of wearing a wreath on her head with candles!

The first week of Advent is "Hope" - so for this week's Quotable Sunday  I've found some great quotes on 'Hope'...enjoy!

“Symbolizing eternal hope, the wreath goes 'round and 'round, And where it starts or ends cannot be found. Woven of things that grow - for life, and hung for holiday delight The wreath must be left in place From Advent through Twelfth Night.”

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
Oscar Wilde

“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.”
Eskimo Proverb

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”
Albert Einstein

“In all things it is better to hope than to despair”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Never let go of hope. One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be. You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you will ask yourself... 'How did I get through all of that?'”

“Hope is the dream of a soul awake.”
French Proverb

“May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.”
