Friday Fragment Freewrite - Because I Can

It's Friday, and you know what that means, don't you? I can be as discombobulated as I want, because Mrs. 4444 said so - and it's confirmed by Sara, too! Nothing like being validated for being freely fragmented... ;) Seriously, though - Mrs. 4444 is the hostess with the mostest over at Half Past Kissin' Time with Friday Fragments, and Sara always has something going on over at Ordinary and Awesome, today it's Friday Freewrite. You're getting two for the price of one!

So yesterday I only got to do half of my bi-monthly grocery shopping. I know some of you think I'm crazy to only grocery shop twice a month for the entire month (Justine), but I actually like being able to have it all done and not have to go Every. Single. Week. Or more than once a week. It's hard enough to cajole Princess Nagger into going twice a month, forget about convincing her to go several times...besides, bribery can get expensive. And there are enough crazy people at Wal*Mart to warrant limited visits there. I divide my grocery money and time between Wal*Mart and BJ's - because the local grocery stores that are only slightly closer are waaaay more expensive.

So anyway, back to yesterday...first stop, Wal*Mart - I pulled into the perfect parking space close to the front, put it in park, covered my windshield with one of those windshield cover thingies so the steering wheel wouldn't burn me when we got done...and remembered that I forgot. I forgot the coupons I had painstakingly cut out for BJ's, but worst of all, I forgot my list. Yes people, I make and use a list - keeps me primarily on budget, and helps me not to forget things. Mostly. Wait...what was I rambling on about?

Of course I wasn't going to drive all the way home to get those things, I told Princess Nagger we'll just wing it. I decided I'll just have to go to BJ's today so I can take advantage of the coupons for the rest of the stuff I want need. Yes, I forgot some of the things on my list at Wal*Mart, so it'll be "Wal*Mart, Take Two" today. Maybe they'll have had time to restock some of the shelves that were empty...you know, like my French Vanilla creamer - hello?! Wal*Mart? You had a ton of empty shelves yesterday, and it wasn't Monday, your usual "Empty Shelf Day". If there are still a bunch of empty shelves today, Friday, you're going to make some people really angry. Sure, you'll probably be able to outrun 99% of them, but they'll still be angry. I can't think of anything scarier than an angry Wal*Mart Mob.

Hovering Hubby has a musical talent that boggles the mind. That boy can pick up any instrument and start playing like a pro by ear. I wish I had even an iota of the talent he does, but alas, I was not gifted in that regard. Fresh out of high school he even had the opportunity to tour with Peter Frampton one year when Frampton was in need of a bass player. He was part of a rock band during his college and after-college years. When we first moved out here, he joined a Country band - big change. They played out regularly until the leader of the band had personal issues, so they disbanded the band after 9 years. Now he's hooked up with two other guys and they're writing original Christian Rock music. Bigger change.

If you want to hear some of their music, feel free to hop over to Three Nails on soundclick. You can also check out there official website here. There, I've done my duty - Hovering Hubby has been asking for a while when I was going to mention them on my blog, so there ya go. ;) They haven't been around long, but earlier this week were contacted by a recording company and sent a contract - we'll see where that goes.

The time has come to filter and bottle the Blackberry Merlot I've had aging for about 9 months. So you know what I'll be doing this weekend. *hic* I just got a new shipment of brand new empty wine bottles yesterday, so I'll be spending time cleaning and sanitizing them to be all ready. Of course there will be some taste testing going on...have to make sure it's perfect before I start shipping them to customers after all! Besides, Dina from 4 Lettre Words is anxiously awaiting her order of this wine - I promise I won't drink it all during the bottling process, Dina! ;)

Today is my best friend, Peggy's Birthday - she doesn't have a blog or a website (which means she actually has a life), but I'm pretty sure she reads this blog on occasion, so I better not forget to wish her a Happy Birthday here in cyberspace so she'll know I'm thinking about her. Oh, and Peggy? Your Birthday present is late as usual... ;) Next year maybe we'll be able to schedule our Road Trip Adventure to be there in person to celebrate with you. One of these days I'm going to dig up some incriminating photos of us her from our party days and post them...stay tuned.

Oh, and be sure to send lots of warm thoughts to Casey, today's the day she goes under the knife for her breast reduction surgery. My boobs hurt thinking about it. She promised to throw a post up over the weekend to let everyone know how she's doing, so if she doesn't, be sure to leave comments on her last post to annoy let her know you're thinking of her.

I realized that I got through this whole post with nary a picture and I'm too lazy tired this morning to hunt for appropriate (or inappropriate) ones...so I'll leave you with this parting shot of Travis sleeping on our trip home from vacation:

Sorry I don't have my stuff together to serve you yummy food and drink this week, but next week for sure, I promise!

The wine sounds fabulous!!! I am totally impressed.

Congratulations on your hubby getting a contract. My student teacher has a band too. And, my kids' guitar teacher does too. They both say it is horrible to try to sell music now. You sell a couple CD's then everyone uploads them to the internet to steal. The guitar teacher used to make some very good money off of his work selling a couple thousand CD's / tapes. Now he only sells maybe 50. He hates it when people say that they love his new music because he knows that they didn't buy it. The asses even brag about downloading it free to him.

Both said the money is in merchandising and performances.

I only grocery shop twice a month, too--I just don't have the time (or want to spend the time) in the stores. I've even taught the children that, unless it's an emergency, if there is something they need/want, it goes on the list for the next time I go shopping.

I also try to go shopping alone on Saturday mornings. It takes twice as long with kids in tow, even the older ones...I have to stop and look at everything and explain/negotiate/strike down requests for things, etc. If they don't see it they don't ask for it, so I don't see why they need it. Plus, I don't have to listen to it. (Aren't I mean?)

Have a good weekend!

Congrats to that hubby of yours on the contact! Will be listening out for him.

Ooo...homemade wine? Sounds fabulous!

I don't even manage once a week shopping...we area probably in the store at least twice a week. Maybe I should give it a shot.

Ohh blackberry merlot sounds divine, now how can I get a bottle of this stuff. I might have to stop at the what do they call them here in PA, Wine and Liquor store and pick up a bottle of something for this weekend.

Do you have a super wal-mart? we don't, what i liked even better in FL was the Wal-Mart neighborhood market.. great wal-mart food prices without the insaneness of Wal-Mart. I haven't stepped foot in one since we moved!

Well, that's it gotta get ready for "work"! Hmm, I need to catch up with the comments so I can be in FIRST place!

Congrats to your hubby. I am with you - I would so love to have a musical talent. Good luck with your wine!

congratulations to the Hovering Hubbie. My Hubbie is also one of those people talented music people. I took piano lessons for 8yrs and only now do I get the click when I see sheet music "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh", it's not something you can memorize like say chemistry.

the bimonthly grocery is the only way to go! if we don't have it in, we don't cook it!

I have always envied people who can pick up an instrument and almost instantly be able to play it by ear. It is such a gift. I wish I had that gift.

Photo of Travis is precious. I always make a list and I do coupons. Also, I don't leave the house often so when I do I always do everything in that day. It is so much easier to get it all done in one day. I swear to God that my daughter is at Target everyday picking up something. I don't know how she can do that. Everyday, I kid you not!

Juls said...

Wow, how cool about the contract. I'll have to check out the tunes!
I, too, only grocery shop twice a month. And today's the day. I hate grocery shopping with a passion. YuCK....but it's probably because I'm not a big fan of cooking too.

Have a great weekend!!

I only grocery shop twice a month, too. And, I MUST make a list. I am about the most forgetful grocery shopper in the history of the world. I can't just wing it or I'll just walk out of the store with some chicken breasts and a loaf of bread.

Oh, and THE WALMARTS yesterday!! Yesterday was my grocery shopping day, too, and OH MY WORD, where were the groceries?!!

Empty shelves ... in fact, I didn't get 100 calorie packs to encourage our 'healthy' snacking and no turkey sausage. What is up with that?

I would LOVE to go shopping twice a month and no more but that's not possible in Germany. For one thing, no preservatives, for another, my fridge is the size of a suitcase.

GypsyFox said...

I admire that you only go twice a month! I'm at the infamous Walmart 4 times a month & calling my hubby every other day to bring this or that, please tell me your sectret! :) congrats to your hubbs, picking up your button!

Okay, I know there is nothing funny about breast cancer, but I have to tell you that as I read that and saw the photo of the sleeping dog (lying what appeared to be surgery cloth), I had to do a double-take!

Happy FF!!

I usually "big shop" twice a month because Meijer is a long drive, but worth the savings, but at the beginning of this month they had super sales so I stocked up the freezer. I saved a record breaking $90.07 which included $21.12 of coupons I clipped from the Sunday papers.

Stopping by for VGNO! Hope you have a great weekend.

Mention WalMart and show dogs napping and I'm hooked.....

Okay, I still think you're a weenie for shopping like that. And with a list AND coupons? I'd go out of my flippin' mind. And food shopping at Walmart is just too painful with those horrible lines, the way they bag, the fact they have NO BAGGERS, etc. Nope, not gonna do it. I love my Publix and I'm sticking to it!

How exciting for HH that he might have a record contract. And wow, you make and SELL your own wine???

Justine :o )

I can't get past the blackberry wine and grocery shipping info! The wine seriously sounds wonderful.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having to do the Walmart/BJ's 'rounds. That is how I spent my morning. Oh, and I forgot my list too but luckily realized it when I was at the end of the block so I turned around. I would soooo love to only make the 'rounds twice a month. Must learn your secrets. Oh, and good news! I saw a dead dragonfly today so our water must be safe :D

Farmer*swife said...

Love the post of randomness!! But more....

you make your own WINE!!! How much a bottle? What flavor/s as in how does it hit the pallet and what does it go well with? (More wine?) LOL

Do tell Gal! I'm interested if you are 'shipping' it and all? or just for local friends?

:-) I pimped ya and the FireFox3 at my place because so many peeps are having trouble getting into my blog!

But, not tons of new peeps, more my older lovelingly awesome founding readers and blogger friends.

It's frustrating!

I only shop twice a month too. Probably because we get paid bi-weekly and it is just easier to do it that way. before we had our son, Hubby and I shopped once a month because that was how he did it as a bachelor. We bought everything for an entire month, picking up things as we went. wow. It sure was different before we had children!

Happy Birthday to your pal Peggy! I feel totally sucky because I missed that Casey is having surgery-sending warm, healing thoughts her way as we "speak".

I spent a happy evening awhile back touring all of your links-from dolls to gift baskets and wines to your home renovations-how the hecky-hey do you find the time for all of THAT plus wife-and-motherhood PLUS blogging?! Abso-freaking-amazing! Srsly. :)

Wine = Good.

Scott and I grocery shop the same way. We will actually pretty much shop for a whole month. The only things we have to get in the middle of the month are fresh veggies/fruits, since those don't last a whole month usually.

I love your hubby's music. I listened to most of the tracks. Very uplifting. I especially enjoyed The Love In Your Heart.

Beautiful pooped puppy!

Aww, thanks for the boob shout out. The needed it! I'm jealous of your husband's musical ability.. mine has it too.. he can pick up a harmonica or piano (not actually pick it up) and just play and I have to struggle to learn this crap.
