Random Tuesday Thoughts - The Trivial Trivia Edition

I'm buried in creating stuff.  Good stuff.  Yummy stuff.  Yummmmmmmm.  So that means I haven't had a minute to take a breath or a break or a brain fart.  No brain fart means no Random Tuesday Thoughts.

Except...

I have some trivia...so I thought I'd share the trivial fun.  Don't say I've never done anything for you.

Did you know...

The 57 on Heinz ketchup bottles represents the number of varieties of pickles the company once had.

In the early days of the telephone, operators would pick up a call and use the phrase, "Well, are you there?". It wasn't until 1895 that someone suggested answering the phone with the phrase "number please?"

The surface area of an average-sized brick is 79 cm squared. (bet Hit40 already knew that one...)

Cats sleep 16 to 18 hours per day.  (Hit40 probably knew that one, too...)

Rhode Island is the smallest state with the longest name. The official name, used on all state documents, is "Rhode Island and Providence Plantations."

Isaac Asimov is the only author to have a book in every Dewey-decimal category.

The first person selected as the Time Magazine Man of the Year - Charles Lindbergh in 1927.

The most money ever paid for a cow in an auction was $1.3 million.

It took Leo Tolstoy six years to write "War & Peace".

The Neanderthal's brain was bigger than yours is.

On the new hundred dollar bill the time on the clock tower of Independence Hall is 4:10.

The Main Library at Indiana University sinks over an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building.

The sound of E.T. walking was made by someone squishing her hands in jelly.

Lucy and Linus (who where brother and sister) had another little brother named Rerun. (He sometimes played left-field on Charlie Brown's baseball team, [when he could find it!]).

1 in 5,000 north Atlantic lobsters are born bright blue.

Go forth and be Random!

It is a terrible thing when you don't have time to fart, I hate it. And I could do with an 18 hour sleep.

"The sound of E.T. walking was made by someone squishing her hands in jelly."

The Indiana Library trivia is good!! Must have been built by Engineers from Michigan. LOL I am in buckeye bashing mode.

I knew the IU trivia because we did a college visit there a couple of years ago. Yay!

I remember Rerun too!

'well are you there?' i like that! Haha!

Wow, lol I think we both found the same page for our random facts!

Eww on the ET sound being squished jelly. I've heard that library is sinking trivia somewhere before, I think it was on How I Met Your Mother. You know, I get all my facts from TV.

Sultan said...

Who would have thought all those coloring books in the IU library would turn out to be so heavy?

I think my cat is going for the record # of sleeping hours.

1 in 5,000 lobsters is blue? That sounds fairly common. Surely there are a lot of lobsters out there.

I agree with Hit 40...must have been a Michigan Engineer.

LOL, I had no idea cats slept that long. No wonder I was always jealous of her. heh heh .
Loved this post! I'm quizzing hubby when he gets home lol

I love useless trivia... my brain is full of it... love to squeeze in more!! FUN~!!!!

Great trivia! I wonder how long until the library completely sinks!

I love the random trivia, very fun.

What the heck was so special though about the 1.3 million dollar cow? That's crazy. Unless she poops out gold bricks or something. I don't think the milk could possibly be that good.

I'm sure if I were left alone I'd sleep 16 to 18 hours, no problem. ;)

I did know a lot of those.
I loved the Dewey Decimal system:)

Have a great Tuesday!

Great random. I always love random trivia. You're the third person I've read, including me, that did random trivia for Random Tuesday Thoughts. Is there just a bloggerwide brain meltdown or what?

Have a great day,

Raven

I feel so enlightened! I love nonsense facts. My husband would LOVE these. He is actually an expert on things that no one really cares about. (except me)

Cool beans dude.

Imagining the sound of someone squishing their hands in jelly made me a little nauseaus.

Maria @ Conversations with Moms said...

I feel so much more educated right now. I didn't even know there were 57 different types of pickles.

Elle said...

I'm pretty sure my cats sleep 23 hours a day.

Who needs 57 varieties of pickles? Oh, right, apparently nobody since they don't have 57 varieties anymore.

Happy RTT!

Grand Pooba said...

Yes, and the 6 to 8 hours that cats are awake is spent running through the house in the middle of the night while us humans are trying to sleep!

Suzy said...

Welllllllll, are you there??

Love it!

Mama Badger said...

The 57 was just pickles? I thought that included all their sauces and such. That's way too many kind of pickles. Really.

Frugal Vicki said...

did you know that as I was reading this I answered my phone and someone was sighing and it sounded dirty and between your random facts and that I was totally disoriented for like five minutes afterwards.

Anonymous said...

I didn't know that :)

Anne said...

I knew about the kitties and Rhode Island, the rest is news to me. Look at you, educating everyone and all that :).

Jan said...

I would LOVE to be a cat for a few days.

I didn't know that about Rhode Island, although I knew about Heinz and Neanderthals (thank you Jean M. Auel). But I love trivia, so thank you for this random Tuesday post!

Justine said...

Ooh, this was some fun trivia! But... I think Heinz 57 got its name because the 57th recipe is the one that finally worked for them. Hmmm.

Btw... I sent you another email. I need help!

Justine :o )

How come cats can sleep as long as 18 hours and never get fat unlike humans? I'm so jealous. LOL!
